Willow Ptarmigan

This is the Willow Ptarmigan. The "P" is silent, I'm told.

This is the State bird of Alaska.

A town in Alaska wanted to name itself after the state bird. No one could remember how to spell the name "Ptarmigan", so the town ended up with the name "Chicken". So if / when you see "Chicken", Alaska, that's how it got its name.
