Aialik Glacer

Glaciers are huge. This boat continues to get closer and closer to the glacier and the people on deck are indeterminable from our vantage point.

As you can see the ice is "bluish".

The snow packs and becomes very heavy which causes the ice / snow to move down the mountain. The density of the ice makes it such that it doesn't melt like normal ice. It is great for beer coolers I'm told.

Moab Utah, Desert Tree

It is amazing how anything lives in the desert.

This tree is on flat rock and sand on the path leading to the "Delicate Arch" in Arches National Park in Moab Utah. It was very hot on this day and there was always a group of people in the shade of any tree or rock that could be found.

I felt really sorry for the younger kids and older folks who we met on their way up the trail in the middle of the afternoon, because you knew they were not going to be comfortable at best, and dehydrated and sick at worst.

But the trip is worth the effort... but if you go... go in the cool of the day.

The arch is pictured elsewhere on this site.

The Singer

We sometimes visit graveyards to take pictures of grave yard angels. On this particular day we were in Alaska and wondering how you put people into the ground when it is frozen constantly (i.e. "permafrost"). Our efforts to uncover this mystery were interrupted by this singing bird. He sang and he sang and he sang. I guess he wanted is picture taken!
